A full day by speedboat from Nonthasak Marine Rawai port: relax at Coral Island (Koh Hae) with a Thai buffet lunch, then continue to the sparkling white sands of Racha Island and snorkel at Konkae Bay (Siam Bay).
The Racha Islands (or Raya Islands), about 12 km south of Phuket, are best known as an excellent diving and snorkeling day-trip destination. Racha Yai, however, is quickly developing into a place to stay for a while, with a number of bungalows and resorts springing up in recent years.
Racha Yai reveals itself in splendid fashion, with most arrivals landing on a strip of fine white sand tucked deep into the long, U-shaped main bay called Ao Tawan Tok or Ao Bangalow. The water here is clear and perfect for snorkeling, though the bay gets quite busy with visiting boats in the afternoons. The other large bay, Ao Siam, is a pretty place where lonely strolls in solitude are possible. Racha Noi is uninhabited and has no services or accommodation, but there is some great diving in the area.
Known as Koh Hae in Thai, Coral Island got its English name from the Coral Island Resort located on the island. The island has some coral off its coastline with good diving and snorkeling spots. Snorkeling here is well suited to novice snorkelers and children, as you can swim to the shallow reef from the beach. Coral Island lies just 9 km from the southeastern tip of Phuket and is only 20 minutes by boat. The main beach can get a little busy during the daytime, though at night the island is very quiet.
